Carmine (PR176) 15ml Tube, DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor

Collapse

Equal in staining capacity to Alizarin Crimson, but vastly superior in permanence, Carmine is also redder.

This transparent staining pigment, rich and intense, will retain its luminosity in dark passages, but will dilute to produce subtle tones without reducing its permanence.

Darkest of the reds, carmine will help you achieve clear neutrals when mixed with its complement, Phthalo Green.

  • ASTM Lightfastness Rating: Very Good - Not yet rated by ASTM - Rating based on Daniel Smith's independent testing.
  • Tranparency: Semi-transparent
  • Staining: Staining
  • Granulating: No

Wonderful single pigment primary red.
Quality
How would you describe the quality of this product?
Excellent. I have tried many brands of watercolours and Daniel Smith is still my favourite.
Performance
How did this product perform compared to your expectations?
This lovely crimson washes to a pink, mixes with yellow for lovely reds and oranges, mixes with ultramarine for purples. It is made with a better light-rated pigment than Alizarin Crimson so why would anyone bother using the fugitive PR83?
How would you describe the consistency?
Creamy. Rewets well.
Use
How did you use this color in a painting?
It is gorgeous for florals or anywhere that a cool red is required. It is such a versatile colour that it also works as the only red in a limited palette.
Value
Was this product true to its value?
Yes.
Overall Experience
What was your overall experience with this product?
Excellent.
