R&F Encaustic Paints are handmade of purified beeswax, damar resin

and high quality pigments. The resin raises the melting temperature

of the wax and hardens it so that it can be polished to a gloss.

Encaustic is an ancient technique, dating to the 5th century BC.

Wax is melted and applied to a rigid surface. It is then fused or

burned in to create exquisite visual effects.

R&F Encaustic Paints are made in the USA in small batches,

with each color milled to bring out the individual characteris-

tics of the pigment. The proportion of wax to resin is varied

to bring out a uniform workability and hard finish.

104 ml cakes are about the size of a bar of soap.

Encaustic Medium, encaustic paint without pig-

ment, is used to extend colors and create transpar-

encies.

Sennelier Artists' Oil Sticks are made with

pure pigments ground in non-yellowing safflower

oil. Mineral wax adds body and makes the stick

form possible. A tiny amount of cobalt drier

speeds drying time. Like regular oil paint, Sennelier

Oil Sticks can be diluted with turpentine and dry

to a hard film. Available in the same shades and

colors as Sennelier Artists' Oil Colors, they were

originally developed for American abstract artists

to allow uninhibited application of oil paint directly

on canvas. They work well on any ground suitable

for oil paints. Drying time is similar to tube oils,

with thin layers taking two to five days to dry.
