Academy of Botanical Art Supply List: Pen & Ink for the Botanical Artist
The objective of this course is to learn pen and ink techniques for both fine art and technical art. The program relates specifically to the research world and the demands students face when producing iconography (black and white illustrations) for science, yet it also explores the beauty of fine art pen and ink drawings that express subtlety and humor. In the supply list below we list the Sakura Pigma Micron Pens. The Sakura are a disposable alternative to the Rapidograph. If you already own the Rapidograph you do not need to purchase the Micron Pens. The choice is yours. You will need, however, several sized quill nibs and a holder for each size. Be sure to order several sheets of Twinrock Handmade Paper, plus the Art Board, together with the Strathmore 500 Bristol Plate pad. Be sure to take from your kitchen a Cellulose Sponge 6 ¼ X 3 ¼ X 1 “ - Cut a hole into it to hold your bottle of ink. Order more foam board if you need it.
The Academy recommends that you purchase three of the Speedball pen holders. They will hold the quill point sizes 102, 107 and 108
