DANIEL SMITH Ultimate Acrylics - 60ml TubesPaint as Good as You can Imagine
Daniel Smith Ultimate Acrylics are made with the same professional pigment load, innovative colors, lightfastness standards and permanence as our oils and watercolors.
Greater Pigment Load
More pigment means more color and gives our paints exceptional vibrancy, clarity and tinting strength. When you look at the color chart and see the paint in masstone (straight from the tube) and mixed 1:1 with Titanium White, the pigment strength is obvious. More pigment also saves you money. Whether you mix our Ultimate Acrylics with white paint, water, acrylic medium or any of the various gels, their greater pigment strength means you need less paint to achieve your desired result.
Lightfastness and Permanence
By using lightfast natural and synthetic pigments, we've created a line of paint that will last. Each color has been fadeometer tested to simulate years of aging in just a few days. Of our 59 colors, 57 exhibited almost no color change and are rated lightfastness I. The proprietary acrylic medium we use is also permanent and won’t yellow over time.

Why I Use DANIEL SMITH Ultimate™ Acrylics: A Painter’s Point of View
First, the colors are great. They’re clean, vibrant and very heavily pigmented, so a little goes a long way. Most colors are made with a single pigment so they mix beautifully without the muddiness of other brands. And they don’t have the sharp chemical smell that some acrylic paints have.
DANIEL SMITH Ultimate Acrylics are fast drying, but not too fast drying, with an open time up to twice as long as competing brands. That gives you more time to blend passages or glaze colors, yet they still dry fast enough for easy over-painting. And since the colors barely change as they dry, it’s easier to match mixed colors from painting session to painting session. Avoid waste by using a Sta-Wet Palette to keep paint moist and workable for weeks, or to devise a similar substitute.
DANIEL SMITH Ultimate Acrylics are also incredibly versatile. Used straight from the tube, they’re thick and hold brush strokes like oils. They can be thinned with water to a near-watercolor consistency, or used with acrylic medium to make incredibly rich layered glazes. They adhere to almost anything, can be mixed with any of the specialty acrylic gels and mediums and even work as glue for collage. Once dry, the surface of an acrylic painting can be washed, so you don’t need to varnish paintings unless you want an absolutely consistent sheen or an extra layer of protection. Brushes clean up fast with soap and water.

Longer Open Time
Fast drying is the greatest blessing and, sometimes, greatest curse of acrylic paint. Because of the medium and formulations we use, UltimateTM Acrylics remain wet and brushable longer than competing brands. You get the easy reworkability of acrylic painting without the frustration caused by too-fast drying. Colors are easier to mix and duplicate, brush strokes are smoother and handling is superb.
Minimal Wet-to-Dry Color Change
This is a great advantage when you’re trying to match colors from a previous painting session. Lapis Lazuli is the one exception, darkening considerably as it dries.
Less Odor and No Fillers
Acrylic paints typically have a sharp chemical smell. Ours are made with a proprietary acrylic medium that minimizes that odor, making painting more pleasant. Our acrylics contain no fillers or extenders — just pigment and medium. You can use our Ultimate Acrylics with any other acrylic paints and mediums on the market. Because of the flexibility and adhesive nature of the medium, they can be used on canvas, panels, paper, fabric, wood, metal, plastic and many other materials. They’re easy to clean up and don’t need varnishing.
