DANIEL SMITH Water-Soluble Printmaking Inks
We developed our professional quality inks to produce great results with relief, intaglio and monotype printmaking. Our watersulble formula is oil-based, has no toxic solvents and allows cleanup with soap and water.
To extend working time - especially useful for monotypes - add 5% to 10% (max) DANIEL SMITH Acrylic Retarder. To reduce tack and make etching plates easier to wipe, thin with water. Use a spray bottle to apply a small, measured spritz to the ink, then work the water into the ink with a palette knife before inking the plate; up to 20% water can be added to reduce viscosity. Add Magnesium Carbonate or Calcium Carbonate to increase the body or density of the ink, allowing better lines when printing etchings.
Drying time is typically 2 to 4 days; circulating warm air speeds drying. Heavy applications of ink, as in monotypes, may take longer to dry. Once dry, our water-soluble inks are not resoluble and printed images will be waterproof.
