Daniel Smith Acrylic GessoOur gesso is heavily pigmented, thick and brushable. Use two coats to cover instead of three! When you paint with oils or acrylics, using high-quality materials to prepare your canvas or board is as important as the paint you choose. Acrylic gesso has proven to be more flexible than any of the oil grounds. It does not contain oil acids which tend to deteriorate cotton or linen canvas fibers, so an undersizing, such as rabbit skin glue, is not necessary, and should not be used. At Daniel Smith we have developed six acrylic gessoes: White, Black, Stone Gray, Buff Titanium, Venetian Red and Gold. Recommended as painting grounds for acrylics, oils and alkyds, they are more highly pigmented than most and require only two coats for adequate coverage, instead of three. The very high grade acrylic emulsion we use in our gesso provides optimal flexibility and durability. Acrylic gesso cleans up with water.
