Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Paints

Artisan Water Mixable Oils have been specifically developed to appear and work just like conventional oil colors. The depth of color, buttery consistency, lightfastness, opacity/transparency, performance and drying times of Artisan are all comparable to conventional oils, allowing artists to use this range for all oil color techniques. The key difference is that Artisan has the additional ability to be mixed with water.

There is no water within the formulation of Artisan, however, the linseed oil and safflower oil vehicles have been modified to allow the color to accept water. This creates a stable emulsion while retaining the working characteristics of conventional oil color. It is therefore popular with painters who do not like the smell of turpentine or wish to cut down on or eliminate the use of solvents. As a result, painting with Artisan is less hazardous and can be particularily useful in art schools or enclosed spaces.
