NEW GAMBOGE
Our New Gamboge is an excellent lightfast formulation. It's a transparent organic pigment from the yellow to orange zone of your color wheel. It's a good substitute for those colors when transparency is desired while avoiding thick, muddy passages.

INDANTHRONE BLUE
Warmer than most blues, Indanthrone is clear with a delightful range from blue-black to stonewashed denim. Offers exciting new possibilities for indigo skies, water and interesting shadows, as it can be successfully graded to achieve atmospheric and color perspective.

On a background of DANIEL SMITH Iridescent Goldstone Acrylics, details were drawn with Watercolor Sticks to create designs as well as textural complexity. Adding white gouache to the wet Stick color added dimension and terrific value range. Use Watercolor Sticks for detail on top of a pastel drawing, then add another layer of pastel if you wish. Here, they enliven the image with punchy strokes of reddish brown and also deepen the blue shadows. Coat a plexiglas plate with gum arabic and let it dry - the draw with the sticks. The plate was hand-transferred onto dampened Lightweight Rives BFK paper which left a soft impression of shapes. More detail was added by drawing directly on the still-damp paper with the sticks.
Compact, clean and easy to transport, Watercolor Sticks are great for adding color to drawings made on location, like this ink sketch. The sticks were used for the soft shapes of the shadows and reflections, as well as for background color accents. Here, the watercolor Sticks were used to hand-tint a black line drypoint print. Washes supply the bulk of the color, while bold strokes in stronger concentrations underline the graphic appeal of the urban landscape. Watercolor Sticks can be used to create watercolors from start to finish, as here, or to add detail to existing paintings. They're ideal for gestural strokes, like the squiggles and flourishes within this parrot tulip's petals.
