1. Cut ornament shapes from cardboard and trace them onto 300lb cold press watercolor paper. Download our Template. We worked on 5" wide strips of watercolor paper for easier handling and used a fine permanent marker so the drawn outline would be clearly visible when painted over.
2. Mask a name or design with masking Fluid and let that dry. Using DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine and Luminescent Watercolors, paint both sides of the paper. (The backs of the ornaments can be much simpler than the fronts.) Rich, saturated paint applications work well over the masked design.
3. Let the ornaments dry thoroughly, then remove the masking fluid with a rubber cement pick-up. Cut them out, punch 1/4" holes using a hole-punch and add gold cord or brightly colored ribbons. Hang your creations on the tree or in a window, attach them to packages, or give them as gifts.
