Jacquard's 1 lb pack of paraffin is derived from petroleum. It is a relatively brittle wax and will flake when used alone for batik. Therefore it is commonly mixed with microcrystalline wax. It can also be used for cleaning brushes in encaustic. It comes in pellets with a melting point of 140° F.
