Off sandy shores and under sunny skies swim shimmering schools of colorful fish. In the tropics, rainbow colors flash and dance in the iridescent sea. Daniel Smith’s new Tropical Fish triad is a brightly toned trio of watercolor inspired by these splashy subjects.
The Tropical Fish Triad is a primary color palette with a twist—three ultra-bright tones and a hint of sparkle bring an underwater atmosphere to life. Isoindoline Yellow is sunny and saturated. Quinacridone Magenta makes a bold statement and Iridescent Electric Blue embodies bright, shining color.
Quinacridone Magenta is a regal red that is popular with many watercolorists. This smooth, transparent pigment creates flawless washes with a gem-like glow. A slight blue-bias gives Quinacridone Magenta complexity and richness. Use full-strength for a dark red-violet or reveal the radiance of Quinacridone colors by adding water for a gorgeous wash.
Isoindoline Yellow is highly pigmented and nearly orange at full strength. Use as a wash for glowing, semi-transparent passages of color. Smooth, even handling properties make this watercolor ideal in mixtures and for large areas of solid color. Try mixing with Quinacridone Magenta for a brilliant orange. Be bold with a shimmering bright green by mixing with Iridescent Electric Blue.
