The DANIEL SMITH Limited Edition "Northwoods" Extra Fine Watercolor Triad
I wanted three rich, cool colors that mix well with others, and stand well on their own. I also wanted to move away from the traditional ôred, yellow and blue™. So, Prussian Green is my blue, Moonglow is my red and Rich Green Gold is my yellow. It's not as big a stretch as you might think! I used these colors as I would have the traditional colors. I ended up with a very diverse palette because of their broad range, intensity, coolness, and ability to morph when mixed. The number of combinations is vast!

Northwoods

Moonglow, warm, rich purple. Granular and intense, it separates out to create variation within a wash. Mixed with yellow it turns a warm reddish brown. With Prussian Green, it turns bluish! It has a full value range for lovely shadows.

Northwoods

Prussian Green, rich, intense, bluish green. Mixes well with any yellow. When mixed with purple it makes incredible darks! It has a very broad range of values. A delicious moody color that plays well with others.

Northwoods

Rich Green Golda broad range of values for a yellow or a lovely acid green. Take your pick! A good mixer with other colors; the coolest of yellows before it moves into green. Nice diluted or full strength!

Since being introduced to DANIEL SMITH materials in 2001, I have only two pigments left that aren’t DANIEL SMITH Watercolors! All my brushes are either Isabey or DANIEL SMITH 44 Series. The Isabey are for sentimental reasons only and don’t hold a point over time like the DANIEL SMITH.
