Duochrome Saguaro Green 15ml Tube, DANIEL SMITH Luminescent Watercolor

Collapse

Our Luminescent watercolors, unlike anything ever seen in watercolor, simulate the glitter of a watery surface or the luster of mother-of-pearl. They're made from mica pigment, thin transparent particles coated with highly reflective metal oxides. Duochrome watercolors alternate between two distinct colors depending on the reflective light. Duochrome Saguaro Green shifts between rich copper and brilliant metallic green-gold.

Love this product--a must have!
Quality
How would you describe the quality of this product?
I love this product-its versatile and adds a subtitle luminescence to my paintings like nothing else can. All of Daniel Smith paints are the highest quality available anywhere. I'm going to throw out my other brands and switch to Daniel Smith. Thank you!
Performance
How did this product perform compared to your expectations?
Very well. When you buy a luminescent shade you have certain expectations, but with this product, it made certain features in my work pop! That's what I was looking for.
How would you describe the consistency?
Consistency was fine and workable. The granulation was consistent when thinned and the pigment would pool and spread in a gentle flow that complimented the paper I was using. Surprisingly intuitive.
Use
How did you use this color in a painting?
I would use the color to highlight various light features and create a shimmer in darker areas. For instance, in an underwater scene the pigment is applied in a streaming effect which gives the illusion of shimmering light filtering through the water. No amount of lifting of applied paint can create that effect. As an added bonus, the pigments would shimmer and appear brighter when light is reflected on the accented areas.
Value
Was this product true to its value?
Product is a very good value for the money. Other manufacturers charge more for the size and quality of similar products, but they cannot compare to a Daniel Smith product. Really, it isn't a fair comparison because other manufacturers just can't compete. Daniel Smith's products are all about creativity--from the sources they are inspired by to obtain the products, to how they're manufactured. Other brands just can't compare.
Overall Experience
What was your overall experience with this product?
I'm very happy with it and it inspired me to use other products from the Daniel Smith line. Thank you!
