Quinacridone Sienna (PO48 PR209 PY150) 15ml Tube, DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor

Collapse

The ultimate low-staining glazing pigment, certainly finer than any Burnt Sienna. For the traditional and purist watercolor painter, Quinacridone Sienna divides yellows from reds, falling on the orange line. Its place on the color chart makes Quinacridone Sienna a complement-free pigment, easy to modify without revealing a hidden gray.

Quinacridone Sienna works especially well in damp underpaintings overpainted with full-bodied pigments such as Indigo or Payne's Gray. The fine clear Quinacridone particles collect and retreat, giving way to compressed pools surrounded by the premixed grays. Highly durable and extremely transparent, all the Quinacridone colors excel in vivid clarity and intensity.

  • ASTM Lightfastness Rating: Excellent - Not yet rated by ASTM - Rating based on Daniel Smith's independent testing.
  • Transparency: Transparent
  • Granulating: Yes
  • Staining: Low

Quality
How would you describe the quality of this product?
Excellent
Performance
How did this product perform compared to your expectations?
Very well
How would you describe the consistency?
Good consistency when fresh, does crumble when allowed to dry on the palette though.
Use
How did you use this color in a painting?
I use it all the time in a variety of ways: from highly detailed portraits to pen-and-ink architectural sketches, to plein air landscapes. It performs well on its own and mixed with other colors. Makes a beautiful gray with french ultramarine or cobalt blue.
Value
Was this product true to its value?
Yes. Though at the rate I'm going through the tubes, I would love a discount :)
Overall Experience
What was your overall experience with this product?
Excellent. I love the wonderfully transparent yet intense rusty orange color that this pigment gives me. Love DS quality, too.
