Daniel Smith Extenders and Miscellaneous Pigments.


Extenders and other miscellaneous pigments are used as fillers and modifiers in the making of paints, inks, pastels and grounds.

Alumina Hydrate: (aluminum hydroxide, artificial) An inert pigment used in making lakes and in heavy oil paints to improve brushability.
Aluminum Stearate: A metallic soap used as a thickener and stabilizer in paints and varnishes.
Barytes: (barium sulfate ground) A heavy white powder, inert, with no color powder, almost transparent in oils.
Blanc Fixe: (barium sulfate ground) Used as a base for opaque lakes, as a ground for scratchboard or as a white in watercolor or fresco painting.
China Clay: (hydrated aluminum silicate) An inert pigment used in pastels.
French Chalk (Talc): Used to dust the image area, prior to etching, in lithography. Ours is absestos free.
Magnesium Carbonate: A very white, inert pigment used to add body to ink.
Marble Dust: (natural calcium or magnesium carbonate) A mortar in mural or fresco painting.
Preciptated Chalk: (calcium carbonate, synthetic) White pigment used in glue, aqueous mediums and in pastels.
Terra Alba: (gypsum, calcium sulfate, natural) A very white, inert pigment used in painting grounds.
